beskattning av gåva från utlandet...?
Hi!
I´m a Swedsih citizen as of very recently and hopefully can ask a question in English.
Within a month from now I will get a substantial amount of money from my cousin in Bosnia in the form of a gift. I´m aware that "gåvoskatt" is abolished as of many years back but what I´m wondering is what documents Skattverket would ask of me to submit upon receipt of that money on my Swedbank account (??). Obviously a letter confirming the nature of the transaction (gift), which would be verified by a public notary in Sarajevo would be asked of me, but what else?? Is Skatteverket going to require information about the origin of the money in the possession of my cousin. He got it from the sale of a property in Sarajevo, but is that really necessary for Skatteverket to know and if so would I be asked to provide even that document together with the notarized "gåvobrev"?
Thank You!
Marko

Hi Marko,
No problem to ask a question in English.
In most cases it is enough if you show Skatteverket the letter that it is a gift. It is possible for Skatteverket to ask how your brother received the money if the suspect that the money comes from you in the beginning but this is very rare.
Kind regards

Hi Daniel
Thanks for the info!
However, I´m a bit unsure as to the validity of your claim that it is "very rare" for Skatteverket to ask for more documents. Underlying my doubt is the recent phone conversation with an employee in Swedbank who told me that they won´t accept the transfer of my money from my account in Bosnia to Sweden unless I provide them documents about the origin of my cousin´s money, i.e. about the very sale of his properties.
Would appreciate if you could address this concern of mine again more thoroughly. :)
Thanks
Marko
Hi Marko,
This is information that Swedbank needs to have, not Skatteverket. The reason that Swedbank need this information is that have Sweden have some new harder rules regarding money laundry. If you have questions regarding why the Swedbank needs this information you contact them.
Kind regards
Daniel
